Christmas: Part 1

Christmas 2010 was very kind to us. We had the good fortune of enjoying Christmas several times over with many of the people we love...and in many different places.
Our holiday season began in Strasburg, Colorado at Brelynn's parents' house. We enjoyed a couple days of just being together and preparing for our trip to Arizona. And this was the beginning of our being spoiled.
Ammon organizing his tools...

The new weights...
And the movies...the many, many movies. Yay!! Not sure what this face is, but it probably has something to do with the fact that our home will now have more than Disney and chick flicks. :)
And we got to go to lunch with Mom!

**additionally, these photos are courtesy of Brelynn's new camera - did we not tell you that we were spoiled this year??**

Our First Place

Our little basement apartment is nothing special. But it's ours and we have a few nice things - mostly due to the generosity of others. And we're having a lot of un playing house, so we wanted to share our "home" with you. It's our first place, so it's special to us. Welcome!

So you walk in the door, and the kitchen is directly to your right.

This is the window ledge above the table...with our "B" wineglasses and our sparkling cider bottle from our wedding.

This is the window ledge above the sink. We have the lemonade recipe from Grandma Hatch, the candies from Grandma Hatch, a kitchen timer from Grandma Hatch, and the jar full of kisses that I won for Ammon at my Bridal Shower in Colorado.

And this is the material for the curtains in the kitchen/living room. Grandma Breakall made all of our curtains for us, and she did a wonderful job. We love them!

All of our handy little kitchen gadgets. AND the "Apple of Love" photograph...

The sign above the stove says "I love the way you love me" - a gift from Amber!

Our little bathroom! This was our big splurge with our wedding gift cards...the shower curtain. But doesn't it look nice?

View from the door...study area/living room...

Our wedding certificate and wedding album/guest book...and Ammon's boutonniere!

The Family: A Proclamation to the World - in English and Russian. And Brelynn's wedding bouquet!

The pictures down the hallway...

The hallway to the bedroom.

The picture of the lighthouse was a gift from Brelynn's best friend in high school - Elizabeth. She gave it to her in high school. The curtains were made from the tablecloths at our wedding.

The bed and the bedspread a gift from Grandma and Grandpa Lords. (Chirstmas lights just went up recently, but we kinda like them).

The sign above our bed, "Count your blessings" - always a good reminder.

Slippery When Wet

(Apologies for the quality... we do the best we can with cell phones.)

No...we have only just begun...

How to make snow ice cream

Step 1: Gather Snow
Step 2: Add one 12 oz can of evaporated milk
Step 3: Add sugar Step 4: Add vanilla
Step 5: Mix it all togetherStep 6: Try it to make sure it tastes right
No, REALLY... Try it!
Step 7: Serve in bowls
Step 8: Add flavors, if desired

Step 9: Enjoy

Oh no...snow!

We got the first real snowfall of the season this Tuesday. So naturally we went to check it out. And how does an Arizona native check out the snow? Obviously, in shorts and flip-flops!

Oh, but the flasbacks of Russia came fast. And so, the next emergence involved a much greater layering of clothing...

(for all those who are wondering, Ammon is talking to "le papa!" - as in The Baysinger le Papa)

And this is what going to work/school looks like in Wyoming in November: (not too pretty, huh?)

Halloween the Newlywed Way

Well, we talked about Halloween all month. Actually, we talked about Halloween pretty much since we got married. But as it turns out, Halloween is not so grand when it lands on a Sunday, you've got no where to go but to work on the Saturday before, and you've got no family within a 100 mile radius. So alas, we didn't do much.

Still, we DID do some things in hopes of keeping the spirit of Halloween alive.

We carved some pumpkins,

we ate more mini candy bars than should be acceptable for twenty people, let alone two,

...and we contemplated dressing up.

...but some things are better left to other people, or places, or times.

Maybe next year we'll do Halloween the right way. Maybe next year...
